RGM Adds GMT Sport Watch to Collection

RGM Watch Company introduces the Model 501-PC Perpetual Calendar, a new expression of traditional American watchmaking and the company’s first perpetual calendar since the Model 103-R Minute Repeater Perpetual of the late 1990s.

The 501-PC is a watch RGM has wanted to create for many years. Its development represents a return to one of traditional watchmaking’s most enduring complications, approached with the classical design language and craftsmanship that have become characteristic of RGM.

“The perpetual calendar is a complication that has always interested me,” says Roland G. Murphy, founder of RGM Watch Company. “It represents a wonderful combination of technical achievement and traditional watchmaking. I have wanted to bring a perpetual calendar back to RGM for many years, and the 501-PC gave us the opportunity to do it in a way that feels true to our history.”

The design of the Model 501-PC is unmistakably RGM. Its classical proportions and restrained aesthetic draw from the traditions of fine American watchmaking, while the dial takes direct inspiration from perpetual calendar pocket watches of the late 1800s.

The fired enamel dial is central to the character of the watch. Its crisp, deep white surface recalls the enamel dials found on historic pocket watches, where durability, legibility, and beauty were brought together through painstaking craftsmanship. The dial is paired with finely finished blued steel hands, providing a rich contrast against the white enamel and reinforcing the watch’s old-world character.

Together, these elements give the 501-PC a distinctly timeless appearance. Rather than following contemporary trends, the design looks to a period when complicated watches were created to last for generations, with every element carefully considered for both purpose and beauty.

“I have always felt that a good watch should have a sense of permanence,” Murphy explains. “It should not look as though it belongs to only one particular moment in time. With the 501-PC, we wanted to make something that has a connection to the great watches of the past, but is still unmistakably an RGM watch made today.”

The perpetual calendar complication embodies that same philosophy. It is one of traditional watchmaking’s most demanding complications, designed to account for the varying lengths of the months and the leap-year cycle while maintaining the correct calendar indications over the long term.

For RGM, the Model 501-PC represents more than the return of a complication to the collection. It is a continuation of the company’s commitment to traditional craftsmanship and an exploration of the enduring relationship between mechanical ingenuity and timeless design.
